An Overlooked Water Resource

Carbon rich soil acts like a giant sponge that absorbs water during floods and provides it to plants in times of drought. An increase in organic matter (carbon) in the top six inches of soil increases its water holding capacity by approximately 27,000 gallons of water per acre.
