The name Ahavah Farm means "love" in Hebrew and it is the core of our mission:  Love of community, love of pure food and love for our land and environment.  We currently grow using only eco-friendly, regenerative practices including carbon-farming through soil re-building and not tilling our ground, using deep-mulches, row covers and drip line to ensure the most efficient usage of our water and we are also carbon negative which includes running our farm on 100% renewable solar energy.   We do season extension and grow 365 days per year using unheated hoophouses and underground greenhouses.  Finally, we raise pastured chickens and ducks, grass-fed alpacas for biodiversity, pasture management and manure fertilizer and we grow 75+ varieties of heirlooom produce.  We use no sprays or chemicals and no commercial fertilizers of any kind.  Instead we make our own compost and use animal byproducts to build up our soil.  In addition, we also do classes on soil management, water conservation, beekeeping and more in addition to our regular sustainability workshops.

Foodwaze is a mobile and online food guide that connects consumers to the healthiest places for food, including farms, restaurants, cafes, markets and more. We research and rate a variety of metrics to determine the healthfulness of a business. We recommend places to eat that we believe are better not only for human health, but the health of the entire planet, most specifically, it’s very foundation: The Soil.

To that extent, our number one metric in deciding whether a business is one we can recommend to consumers is its commitment to a regenerative food system. This includes authentic, consistent, and verified sourcing from farms and other food sources committed to regenerative agriculture. Foodwaze is different from most other sustainable food guides because of the extensive and objective research we devote to listing a farm or business. We also do not except any fees or advertising from farms or food businesses.

Foodwaze began in 2015 in Virginia. Our content is regional but our goal is to expand nationwide in the near future.

Initiatives for Land, Lives and Peace (ILLP) was launched in 2012 as a programme of Initiatives of Change International to deepen the understanding of the role of land restoration and peace-building in poverty eradication in the world’s dry and degraded lands.

Land (soil) and its ecosystem services is an issue of central importance for human wellbeing and development yet remains largely absent from international development, environmental or peace discourses. After oceans, soils offer the second largest pool of carbon, stored as dead organic matter and soil. Hence, reversing this trend by restoring soils offers a significant opportunity to address global climate change.

Hence, soil restoration also offers opportunities for wider ecosystem restoration, improving (environmental) governance and building climate resilience in food and water security, as well as economic growth through employment. Initiatives for Land, Lives and Peace (ILLP)’s pioneering work focuses on the nexus of soil restoration, strengthening livelihoods and long-term peace-building where soils and ecosystems have been degraded.

Our work is generating awareness through media, education and policy, encouraging participation from individuals, farmers, communities and governments to build back healthy soil.

At Lazy B Ranch, it is our mission to ethically steward both our land and animals for their optimal health. We believe that healthy soils full of life are the best foundation for the forage and crops that our animals depend on for their food.  We practice no-till seeding, cover cropping, pasture cropping and composting to encourage carbon sequestration and soil health. We strive to support a healthy population of worms, bugs, fungi and other microorganisms in our soils that drive carbon sequestration. We never use any vaccines, antibiotics, herbicides, pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. Our beloved animals supply us with all the fertilizer and weed control that we need. We holistically manage our cattle and poultry grazing practices based on the needs of the soils, plants and animals.  We raise, harvest and mill a majority of our own feed ingredients using regenerative agriculture, and we save and clean our own seeds for replanting year to year.

Our goal is to redirect Vermont agriculture toward regenerative methods that provide economic justice to farmers and farm workers, protect and enhance the natural environment, produce healthy food products, promote animal welfare, and implement climate change remediation through an understanding of — and commitment to – healthy, living soils. The regeneration movement is especially concerned with educating citizens about the high greenhouse gas emissions from the current, industrial style of agriculture, but more importantly, showing how changes in farming, ranching, and forestry are the most significant vehicles for sequestering carbon and reversing climate change.

To accomplish our goals, Regeneration Vermont is proposing an extensive public education effort followed by (if necessary) creative, grassroots campaigns that take direct aim at corporations profiting from toxic, climate-threatening agriculture. We will tell the tragic story of degenerative agriculture, identify its corporate enablers, and then put them in the spotlight of marketplace activism. In Vermont, that means the dairy corporations. And that means Ben & Jerry’s and Cabot Creamery.
