We Need to Regenerate our Whole Planet on Earth Day

On Earth Day, Regeneration International, with our 360 partner organizations in 70 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Oceania, North America and Europe, will continue to promote, facilitate and accelerate the global transition to regenerative food, farming and land management for the purpose of restoring climate stability, ending world hunger and rebuilding deteriorated social, ecological and economic systems.

On #GivingTuesday, we are in Madrid—and Chile.

Some members of our team are in Madrid this week, to help kick off the official COP25 global climate summit. But many of us are in Santiago, Chile. Chile was supposed to host COP25—until mass protests, triggered by social and economic injustices, forced a last-minute change in venue. Rather than abandon our South American allies in the Regeneration Movement, we chose to follow through with plans, initiated early in 2019, for strategy and training sessions to bring regenerative solutions to a country in crisis.

The Climate Emergency: Regenerate or Perish

Transitioning a small proportion of global agricultural production to regenerative agriculture and regenerative grazing systems will sequester enough CO2 to reverse cli-mate change and restore the global climate.

Most are not tested, and when there is testing, it misses the vast majority of diseases at the normal rates at which they occur due to faulty protocols.

Healthy Soils for a Healthy Life — Increasing Soil Organic Matter Through Organic Agriculture

Given that synthetic nitrogen destroys organic matter, the use of these fertilizers should be avoided as they lock farmers into a perpetual dependence on these costly inputs once the organic matter levels have been run down and most of the organic nitrogen forms in the soil have been depleted. Farmers should be encouraged to obtain all their nitrogen from organic sources such as composts, manures, green manures and legumes and build up their organic matter levels.
