Our Mission

To promote, facilitate and accelerate the global transition to regenerative food, farming and land management for the purpose of restoring climate stability, ending world hunger and rebuilding deteriorated social, ecological and economic systems.

Why COP 25?

Regeneration International will attend COP25 to promote regenerative agriculture, holistic planned grazing, watershed restoration and land management as essential practices to reverse global warming and regenerate soil, ecosystems and communities.

Given the considerable attention that agriculture, food production and land use are getting at official negotiations following the IPCC report and the Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture, we understand the importance of having a strong presence both within and outside the COP, to ensure that existing best regenerative practices are supported, and that shovel-ready solutions that improve soil organic matter, sequester carbon, and restore ecosystems, livelihoods and communities are highlighted over industrial agriculture models.

Our Plan

In Chile and in Spain, Regeneration International plans to advance the regenerative agriculture movement globally, linking regenerative agriculture and the climate crisis, pointing at the root causes and connections between the social and climate crises, and highlighting best local and international regenerative practices.

Roadmap to COP25

Regeneration International has been actively working the past few months to ensure the voice of regeneration is heard loud and clear at this COP, both inside the official event and at several events outside COP premises.

On July 19, we held a meeting with our allies and partners in Chile, where we launched the work of a new network. We continued connecting and inspiring the network in Argentina and other international allies, and we are ready to bring a delegation to Chile in December.

Regeneration International was also in New York City at the Climate Week, with a September 26th panel on the life of plants and secrets of the soil, and attended the September 25th meeting of the Global Alliance for the Future of Food.

Back in Chile, the Regeneration International team will be sharing with fellow regenerators at the First Congress on Agroecology in Pucón, organized by the Universidad de La Frontera (UFRO) and the Chilean Division of the Latin American Scientific Society of Agroecology.

Regeneration International also co-organized – along with the University of Chile, the Catholic University of Chile and several other groups and organizations – the IX International Educational Garden Meeting in Villarica, Chile, November 27-30.

Chile or Madrid?

In early November, Chile pulled out of hosting the United Nations COP25 climate conference, citing recent protests and civil unrest in Santiago where the summit was to be held December 2-13.  However, Spain stepped in and offered to be the new host for COP25, for the same dates.

At that moment, we had to make a decision: completely shift our direction and send our whole delegation to Spain—despite the great contacts and commitments we had already made and agreed upon in Chile—or send a smaller delegation to Madrid and continue having a presence in Santiago, in solidarity with the international regenerative movement in Chile.

We opted for the latter, and outlined our thinking in a press release and another article in this article.

We are grateful for the solidarity, support and courage of our network in helping us make this difficult decision.
