All About Legumes: Peas, Beans and Other Nitrogen Fixers

06/20/2020

Legumes are some of the most important and fascinating plants that we work with in the farm and garden. Through symbiosis, these plants and their microbial allies convert atmospheric nitrogen to a form of nitrogen usable by all plants. As such, legumes are perfect additions to any crop rotation, as they not only feed us, but they also feed the soil. In this full-day workshop, the fourth in our focused crop series, veteran farmers and Living Web Farms Director Patryk Battle will take you through a detailed study of the legume family, including history of their use, best plants for the modern farmer, culture, pest and disease information, harvest, human use, and even cooking! Participants will become more familiar with some of their most cherished plant friends, and also be inspired to try lesser-known legumes in the garden.
