Online – TEDxSustainableFoodTrust

04/29/2021

We stand at a critical moment in history for food and farming:

On the one hand, a global economic recession, triggered by the current pandemic, could lead to a race to the bottom of cheap, unhealthy and unsafe food and drive us further towards irreversible climate change.

Yet knowledge, practice and public awareness of regenerative farming has grown, uniting food system stakeholders from all over the world in an effort to heal our ecosystems and transition towards more sustainable farming practices.

With almost half of our land now used for agriculture, the actions of farmers, supermarkets, and consumers alike will determine whether we pass on a liveable planet to future generations. But how can we build a more sustainable farming future together?

For such a transition to take place globally, we need to create a common way of measuring the sustainability of our food and farming systems. Like the financial accounting standards, we also need a universal set of clear targets which monitor progress towards sustainable, regenerative food production. The first step, therefore, must be to create an internationally harmonised metric for measuring on-farm sustainability.

The SFT is delighted to be hosting our first TEDx Countdown event on Thursday 29th April, where we will showcase our harmonised metric and illustrate how it could be applied on a global scale. Expect to hear from some of the world’s leading thinkers in food, farming, policy and retail and feel empowered to take meaningful action in the fight against climate change.

To save your place, register via Eventbrite and sign up to our newsletter for all the latest updates, including speakers and details of the watch party to be announced shortly.

If we are to step back from this tipping point, we urgently need engagement and action from all the key players in the global food community – including citizens. We hope you’ll join us.
