Join Jeff Tkach, Chief Impact Officer of the Rodale Institute, in conversation with Pierre Ferrari, President and CEO of Heifer International, for a discussion on why healthy soil and the farming systems that support it are the answer to sustainably improving human health.
Healthy soil produces healthy crops, increasing the nutrient makeup of the food we eat and improving human health. Today, in the United States, 70% of the crops we grow are cereal grains, used to feed livestock. Industrial agriculture systems have drastically diminished soil health, with monocropping and high use of pesticides destroying the land to prioritize cash crops. To end malnutrition, prevent disease and improve global health, we must focus on food and farming systems that improve soil health.
