Hawaii’s food system is in the midst of an economic and cultural renaissance. One in which healthy agriculture drives healthy communities. Led by small scale producers, state-wide farm-to-school and cafeteria pilot programs, local composting initiatives, and community supported projects to preserve traditional Hawai’ian foods, consumers and producers are together transforming what it means to eat like a local in Hawaii and beyond. Initiatives in Hawaii are setting an example for how a circular, regenerative, and local food system can simultaneously support the economy, strengthen cultural heritage, and improve the overall health of a community.

In 2018 and 2019, Hawaii Center for Food Safety (HCFS) produced and released a four-part video series, Regenerating Paradise as part of an educational campaign around soils and climate mitigation. In HCFS’ Regenerating Paradise 2, HCFS showcases the expansion of the reconnection of land-health-to-human-health-to-community resilience in Hawaii.

This event is hosted by Center for Food Safety in partnership with Good Food Movement and Waiwai Collective.
