Phil & Sarah Lovenuk, Black Barn Farms

Phil & Sarah purchased their farmland to build a family farm. Before then, the fields had been used mainly for growing and harvesting hay and grains to feed livestock over the winter. The soil was highly depleted and compacted from years of being driven on by heavy equipment, plowed under, and sprayed with chemical fertilizers. Even though they both grew up when these conventional farming methods were the be-all of agriculture, we both felt like there was a better way to farm and doing it this way was not natural or sustainable. That’s when they started Black Barn Farms, a regenerative farm that works with the environment and promotes the healing of the land by taking machinery and chemicals out of the equation.
