Webinar: An introduction to organic vegetable cultivation and tillage

This OGA webinar will give an overview of mechanised tillage, from bed preparation to weed control, looking at cultivation tools and their use in various contexts.

The webinar will cover:

  • Cultivation tools – what they are, what they do, and their pros and cons
  • Cultivation and soil health
  • Cultivation experience – three farmers share their experience of tillage from their own farms

Rita Oldenbourg, Pitney Farm Market Garden, Somerset. Rita has been growing veg commercially for a decade. She runs a 4.5 acre market garden with her partner, supplying wholesale veg year round for an on-site farm shop, and for local cafes, restaurants, and box schemes.

Ruth Hancock, Fresh and Green. For the past twenty years Ruth has grown a year round supply of vegetables for the box scheme that she runs in East Devon. Operating on a seven acre growing site of sandy loam, with some protected cropping, she utilises a combination of tractor mounted implements and hand cultivation.

Calixta Killander, Flourish Produce.
