Learn two different ways to improve your vegetable garden soil health during the hot summer months.
As your spring crops fade, you may wonder what to do in the garden over the summer. If you are planning to go on vacation, don’t have time to actively garden, or just don’t want to deal with the heat, try improving your garden soil. This class will present two methods of improving your garden soil: Solarization and Cover Crops.
The class consists of 2 parts:
- The initial presentation of information and discussion via Zoom. In this portion of the class, we’ll discuss the benefits of solarization and cover crops and how to use them.
- An additional (and optional) hands-on component at our Urban Demonstration Garden, located at 1032 Superior St., Jacksonville, FL 32254 only for those who participate in the online class. This component will be held on Weds. June 23 from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. During this time you will see how we are implementing solarization and cover crops, try your hand at solarizing a bed, and be able to ask all kinds of questions.
More information about the hands-on component will be provided to participants in the online Zoom class.
